Brand Finance to Present Canada’s 50 Most Valuable Brands

Intangible assets form a growing and significant component of corporate value, as evidenced by the globaladaptation of the ISO 10668 brand valuation method suggests. This is true of many resource-basedcompanies; more so than most realize.

In anticipation of the coming adaptation of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) in North America, Karo Group is proud to welcome Brand Finance to the Western Canadian market on Tuesday, July 17th. Brand Finance is the world’s leading independent brand valuation consultancy. They value brands, intangible assets and intellectual property for accounting, tax, corporate finance and marketing purposes. Brand Finance will be coming to Calgary’s Headspace to release their Leaderboard of 2011’s Top 50 Valuable Canadian Brands, and presenting awards to the Top 10 Valuable Oil & Gas, Mining, Financial Services, Consumer & Retail, Tech & Telecom brands, and an award for the Biggest Mover. The Brand Finance Leaderboard is unique as the rankings are based on the financial strength of each brand. By assessing a brand’s financial contribution to corporate income, Brand Finance is able to provide financial context to the healthy management of this increasingly important intangible asset.

Currently, there is a global convergence towards a single set of high quality accounting standards to be used for all organizations around the world. Canada has developed a strategic plan to adopt IFRS for all publicly traded organizations. This shift could cause potential challenges for many Canadian organizations who don’t currently quantify their brand as an asset. David Haigh, CEO of Brand Finance will be speaking on July 17th on how to avoid these challenges.

The evening will be followed by a panel discussion to examine how Canadian commodity organizations can leverage their Canadian origins to enhance their brand in a global market. Could being of Canadian origin be the competitive advantage needed to distinguish one competitor from another?
