Brand Finance attended Davos on Thursday 19th January to launch the Brand Guardianship Index 2023 at an exclusive event hosted in association with Deloitte during the World Economic Forum. We announced the rankings of the world’s top 100 CEOs and hosted a panel discussion alongside global leaders on the topic “Building sustainability into the organizational culture and brand strategy”.

The panel explored the importance of building sustainability into organisational culture and brand strategy, including a deep dive on responsibility for climate action. Panelists further discussed what this means for business strategies, how to educate employees on climate choices, what technology is available to support business leaders, and the resulting impacts on a company's brand and society at large.

David Haigh
Chairman and CEO
Brand Finance

David is the Chairman and CEO of Brand Finance Plc – the world’s leading brand valuation consultancy. He has worked in the area of branded business, brand, and intangible asset valuation since 1991. He specialised entirely in the field after becoming the Director of Brand Valuation for Interbrand in 1995. He subsequently left Interbrand in 1996 to launch Brand Finance which is celebrating 25 years in business this year.

David represented the British Standards Institution in the working parties responsible for crafting international industry standards: ISO 10668 on Brand Valuation in 2010 and ISO 20671 on Brand Evaluation in 2019.

David is a passionate writer and has authored many articles on brand valuation, published in numerous marketing and finance newspapers and magazines, such as: Financial Times, Accountancy Age, and Marketing Week. He has also lectured on the topic of brand valuation for Harvard, Chicago, and London Business Schools.

David graduated from Bristol University with an English degree, qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Price Waterhouse in London, and obtained a postgraduate diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM). He is a Fellow of The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and has a practising certificate with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).

Annie Brown
Valuation Director
Brand Finance

Annie is a qualified management accountant and has worked on Brand and Business valuation projects serving global clients, including Barclays and Shell. She is experienced across of variety of services including brand licensing, research analytics, rebrand uplift and balance sheet valuation. Annie heads up various studies at Brand Finance, including the annual Global Intangible Finance Tracker (GIFT™) and the Brand Guardianship Index. In addition, Annie has conducted research and analysis for the Brand Finance brand rankings, specialising in Banking, Retail and Oil & Gas sectors. Annie has served clients worldwide, with a particular focus on the USA and the Middle East. Annie joined Brand Finance as an Analyst in August 2017 after graduating from The University of Edinburgh with a Masters degree in Philosophy and Economics. She has since completed her CIMA professional qualification.

Sami Rahal
CEO
Deloitte Central Europe

Sami Rahal became CEO of Deloitte Central Europe (“DCE”) GmbH in June 2021, a combination of Austria, Central Europe, France & Francophone Africa, Germany, Portugal, Luxembourg, and Turkey Member Firms. He connects the breadth and depth of capabilities of over 37,000 people and 1,500 partners. DCE unites 7 Geographies on three continents.

From June 2017 to June 2021, Sami was CEO of Deloitte France and Francophone Africa, driving value creation for clients in audit and assurance, consulting, financial advisory, risk, and tax services. He is committed to turning disruptive challenges into competitive advantages through technology, social innovation, and sustainability embedded at the core of business models and operations.

In his previous roles, Sami served as Deloitte France Chief People Officer and Chief Strategy Officer from 2015 to 2017. Prior to that, he led Deloitte Financial Advisory in France and Deloitte M&A services across the EMEA region.

Sami has an MBA from INSEAD, a Master’s degree from ESSEC Business School and an Engineering Degree from INPG. He is a certified public accountant.

Sami Rahal serves as an IMD Foundation Board Member, a European leading business school. He also is a member of the EPE Association, Enterprises for the Environment.

Sami has two daughters, aged 23 and 19, loves practicing ski, golf, and tennis. He also enjoys French literature, wine tasting (Burgundy notably) and Japanese cuisine.

Riccardo Barberis
Regional President, Northern Europe
Manpower

Riccardo Barberis was appointed Regional President, Northern Europe in May 2021. In this role, Barberis oversees all of ManpowerGroup's brands and offerings across the region – Manpower, Experis and Talent Solutions. Barberis will lay the path to further accelerate ManpowerGroup’s diversification, digitization and innovation plans, creating even more value for clients and candidates and strengthening our performance in the region.

Barberis joined ManpowerGroup in 1998 and has held numerous leadership positions in Europe and Latin America, most recently as country manager for ManpowerGroup Italy. With 25 years of experience including many international roles his deep industry knowledge and passion for a client-first, candidate-centric approach consistently delivers superior results.

Barberis holds an Executive MBA at Bocconi University (Milan), has accomplished management programs at INSEAD and speaks five languages. He currently serves as Board Member of Junior Achievement, Vice President of the Italian Industry Association, Assolavaro and President of ManpowerGroup's Human Age Institute. Barberis lives with his wife and three children in Milan.

Jonas Dennler
Chief Marketing and Solution Officer for Sustainability
SAP

Jonas started his career in 2009 as the global environment manager of SAP. In this role, he was responsible for the corporate CO2 accounting, the roll out of a global environmental management system, and various CO2 reduction initiatives like the Green Cloud, e-mobility or introducing an internal price for carbon. He was also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Swiss Climate Foundation and a member of the investment committee of the Livelihoods Fund.

After different positions in the regional Customer Advisory team, Jonas Dennler now leads the global Go to Market for SAP’s sustainability solutions and services. Jonas also holds a degree in Environmental Physics from ETH Zurich, as well as an Executive MBA in Business Engineering from HSG St. Gallen.
