Brand Finance unveils the 25 strongest & most valuable Kenyan brands of 2023
Each year Brand Finance values over 5,000 of the world’s biggest brands. The most valuable and strongest brands in East Africa have been published since 2015.
The Kenyan top 25 brands of 2023 showcase resolve, resilience and innovation and should be celebrated. As a nation with growing potential in a complex geo economic present, it is increasingly important that leading brands are recognised as the nation’s ambassadors for their enduring contribution to the wider East African integration and economy.
Brand Finance, East Africa, in conjunction with The Strathmore University Business School, were joined by brand representatives to honour Kenya’s 25 most valuable and strongest brands and their achievements.
Forum theme: “Value-based approach to brand management”
The panel discussion included representatives from Kenya’s top performing brands, along with the valuation team from Brand Finance UK, who highlighted the main movements and trends of the top 25 most valuable brands for 2023.
Amongst the delegates were a number of representatives of Kenya's most valuable and strongest brands.
Strathmore University Business School is the business school of Strathmore University. Based in Nairobi, Kenya, it offers Doctoral, Masters and Undergraduate programmes, as well as executive education programmes. It was started in 2005 through a partnership between Strathmore University and IESE Business School.
Benedict joined Brand Finance as an Analyst having prior experience in valuation, market research and analysis.
Benedict is a trainee management accountant and has worked on Brand and Business valuation projects serving global clients in sectors such as telecoms, semi-conductors, oil & gas and insurance.
He graduated from the University of Cape Town with majors in Economics and Marketing whilst further completing an (Hons) Financial Analysis and Portfolio Management.
Furthermore, Benedict conducts research and analysis for the Brand Finance league tables, with a particular focus on Insurance, Automobiles, Nation Brands and Football.
Dr. Caesar Mwangi is the Executive Dean of Strathmore University Business School. Prior to his appointments as the Executive Dean, he was the Group Chief Executive Officer for ICEA LION Insurance Holdings Ltd. He has also been an Adjunct Faculty Member of SBS since the commencement of the first MBA program in 2006.
He holds a PhD in Organizational Performance and Change Management from the University of Johannesburg, MBA in Strategy and Corporate Finance from Wits Business School and a Bachelor of Arts (Economics) from Nairobi University. He also holds various Professional qualifications including: Certified Public Accountant (CPA (K)) Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and Certified Executive Leadership Coach from Coach Development Institute (CDI Africa). He is a Trained Facilitator for the use of Organization Culture Transformation Tools developed by Barrett Values Centre, (London, UK) and Leadership Challenge Methodology developed by Wiley & Sons, UK.
Dr. Mwangi has over 25 years of experience in various Management and Leadership roles. His previous professional experience includes stints as Management Consultant with Deloitte Touché (Nairobi and Johannesburg); Finance and Corporate Services Director with Independent Mediation Service of South Africa; Managing Director with Maisha Consulting (Johannesburg); Associate Director responsible for Risk Management and Internal Audit for Africa and Europe Region in the Consultative Group in International Agricultural Research (CGIAR); Managing Director with Sasini PLC; Africa Regional Director with Global Village Energy Partnership; Turnaround Consultant and Chief Executive Officer with Sunnymoney; Principal Consultant and CEO for Centre for Personal Leadership.
Dr Mwangi has Chaired a number of Boards including Chairman, Kenya Markets Trust; Chairman of the Investments Committee of the South African Council of Churches, Chairman of the Kianda School Board and Chairman of the Strathmore Education Registered Trust with Fiduciary responsibilities for the Strathmore University, Strathmore School, and the Eastland’s College of Technology.
He has also been the Vice Chairman of the Strathmore University Council and Chair of the Audit Committee, Interim Director on the inception of the Strathmore Governance Centre (SGC) 2008, Vice Chair of KEPSA Agriculture Sector Board, member of Kenya Climate Innovation Centre Board, member of the Kenya Climate Ventures Investment Committee, member of the Board of the Sandford International School in Addis Ababa and the Roosevelt Park School in Johannesburg. He is also the Founding Director of the Centre for Personal Leadership. He currently serves on the Boards of Mitchell Cotts Freight forwarders Ltd and the Karirana Tea Estates Ltd.
Dr Mwangi is an ardent hiking enthusiast and also a Facilitator on the Program for Family Development at SBS. He is married to Anne Wangui and the father of boys and girls who motivate him to be the best possible version of himself so as to contribute to a better future for the sake of the next generation.
Declan joined Brand Finance in 2016 as an Analyst. During his time at the company he has progressed to his current role as a Valuations Director at Brand Finance Plc and a Director of Brand Finance Africa.
Declan leads Brand Finance in Financial Services, with particularly focus on the banking sector. Declan leads the team that produces the annual Most Valuable Global Banking Brands study in collaboration with The Banker magazine (the FT). He has both written and contributed to various industry thought leadership and academic papers, and is regular speaker at various conferences such as the IAA Africa Rising conference.
Declan has extensive experience in market research, brand and business valuation, brand strategy and positioning, sponsorship evaluation and brand architecture. Declan's clients include ABSA, Access Bank, Citi Bank, TD Bank, First National Bank, Royal Bank of Canada, QNB among others.
Declan is a qualified Chartered Accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England Wales, having previously studied at the University of Cape Town in South Africa graduating with a Bachelor of Business Science in Finance with Economics.
Moses Kemibaro is the Founder & CEO of Dotsavvy, Kenya’s first digital business agency which conceptualizes, develops, delivers, and manages high-performance business results for its clients via digital channels. Dotsavvy has been operational for 20 years spearheading next practices across a broad spectrum of digital business offerings.
Previously, Moses was the Regional Manager for Opera Ads in East Africa, the Commercial Manager for East Africa at the Perform Group, now known as DAZN and Perform Content, as well as the Sales Director at InMobi for Africa where he led sales in Kenya, Egypt, Nigeria, and Ghana. He was also the Founding Regional Manager at Dealfish East Africa (formerly known as OLX Kenya), Kenya’s leading digital classifieds platform, now known as Jiji Kenya.
Moses is a multiple award-winning Technology, Digital Media, and Digital Marketing Blogger and Industry Analyst at MosesKemibaro.com where he rants and raves about all things digital in Kenya and Africa. He is also one of the region's leading digital transformation trainers and a regular speaker and panelist in industry events and also contributes commentaries to leading media.
